Gospel music is ushering in a powerful new voice as Ntokozo Princess Jodwana steps into the spotlight with her deeply moving new single Ngcwele Jesu, released on 27 March 2026.
The song signals a major turning point in her career, marking her transition from a celebrated backing vocalist to a fully realised solo artist with a clear sound, identity and spiritual mandate.
Known for her work with leading gospel platforms Women in Praise and Spirit of Praise, Jodwana has spent years honing her craft behind the scenes. Now, she emerges with a bold and personal offering drawn from her upcoming album The Throne of Grace.
More than just a song, Ngcwele Jesu is a spiritual expression born from reflection, purpose and a deep desire to minister through music.
Her journey began at just 13 years old as a backing vocalist in her community. She later sharpened her skills at the Music Academy of Gauteng under the late Dr Johnny Mekoa, studying music and broadcasting engineering, a foundation that continues to shape her artistry today.
Raised in Kwa Thema and Duduza by her grandparents in a devout Christian home, Jodwana says her calling has always been clear.
“I was raised by my grandparents, Gogo and Mkhulu Mokoena, in Duduza. I grew up in a loving Christian family. I started singing at church when my Uncle Leon introduced me to gospel music,” she says.
“I remember one day at school, I was very shy, but I started singing and everyone clapped for me. From that moment, I never stopped.”
That early spark has grown into a powerful ministry.
“Growing up, I loved gospel ministers. I always knew that one day I would be the one holding the microphone and preaching the good news,” she reflects.
Interestingly, Ngcwele Jesu came to her unexpectedly during the creation of her album.
“We were preparing The Throne of Grace when a friend sent me the song. After pre production, I was so excited by how it sounded. I could not wait to perform it,” she explains.
After three years of waiting, the release now feels perfectly timed.
“I am so thankful that Ngcwele Jesu is the first song we are releasing from the album,” she says.
Her experience working alongside gospel greats has also shaped her mindset.
“I have learned to have a strong character and never look down on myself. You do not need to copy anyone, just be yourself,” she says.
Stepping into the spotlight has required courage and clarity.
“Being part of Women in Praise and Spirit of Praise was a blessing, but stepping out meant discovering my own sound and identity,” she shares.
Beyond singing, Jodwana has expanded her talents as a presenter, MC and vocal coach, a move that has strengthened both her confidence and versatility.
“I challenged myself to discover my hidden talents, and that helped me grow in confidence and connect with great people in the industry,” she says.
With Ngcwele Jesu, her mission goes beyond music.
“I want listeners to feel revived and reminded that God is at the centre of everything,” she says. “I believe in growing with time while staying true to who I am.”
As she embraces this new chapter, Jodwana is already looking ahead.
Fans can expect her full album, national tours, international tours, and more music as she continues to rise as one of gospel’s most promising voices.
