GLEN – A 50-year-old man remains in custody following his arrest for allegedly assaulting a 2-year-old girl by throwing her against a wall during an altercation with his girlfriend. On Saturday, 29 March 2025, at approximately 00:10, the 29-year-old mother left her two children in the care of her 50-year-old boyfriend at his residence in Glen Location. She had stepped out briefly to borrow a cellphone from a neighbour to access her banking application. Upon her return, a heated argument broke out between the mother and her boyfriend, who accused her of an unspecified interaction with another male. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly physically assaulted the mother before waking the children and instructing them to leave the premises. The youngest child, a 2-year-old girl, refused to comply, at which point the suspect allegedly picked her up and violently threw her against a wall. He then proceeded to slap her across the face with an open hand. Fearing for her and her child’s safety, the mother fled the scene with the injured toddler and sought refuge at her mother’s residence. The child sustained severe injuries, including swelling on the left side of her face, swollen lips, and bleeding from the nose. Glen Police opened a case of assault, leading to the arrest of the 50-year-old suspect. He appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday and is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, 8 April 2025. He remains in custody until his next court appearance. Ends
