Gerrard sacked after Villa defeat, Leicester boost survival bid

LONDON – Steven Gerrard was sacked by struggling Aston Villa after a dismal 3-0 defeat at Fulham on Thursday, whereas Leicester climbed off the underside of the Premier League with a 2-0 win towards Leeds.

Gerrard paid the value after his group have been booed off at full-time by Villa’s livid followers after a wretched show prolonged their winless run to 4 matches.

Having gained simply two matches this season, Villa are above the relegation zone solely resulting from their slight targets scored benefit over third-bottom Wolves.

Former Liverpool and England midfielder Gerrard gained the Scottish title as Rangers boss in 2021, ending Celtic’s lengthy interval of dominance.

But he has been unable to construct on that spectacular work since transferring to Villa Park to switch the sacked Dean Smith final November.

Speaking at his post-match press convention, Gerrard had vowed to avoid wasting his job.

“Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect,” a press release stated.

“We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.”

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the Villa submit, together with ex-Chelsea supervisor Thomas Tuchel and former Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

Fulham kicked off with no win of their earlier three matches, however Villa have been unable to take benefit as Gerrard’s ultimate match produced a fittingly miserable consequence.

Harrison Reed opened the scoring with a fierce strike from the sting of the world after Villa didn’t clear a nook within the thirty sixth minute.

Issa Diop needed to block Ollie Watkins’ effort on the road as Villa briefly threatened.
