KIMBERLEY – The Northern Cape multi-disciplinary Operation Vala Umgodi team, tasked to combat illicit mining activities, arrested a 32-year-old male suspect following the assault on his 26-year-old partner on Saturday, 15 March 2025 in Greenpoint, Kimberley. The team that was busy with an outreach campaign activation in Greenpoint, uncovered the assaulted female at her grandparent’s home in pain, with a swollen face, and could not give an account of the assault to the police due to injuries to her jaws. Police immediately assisted the victim in opening a criminal case on 21 March 2025 and activated all resources and relevant units in order to track, trace and apprehend the suspect. The suspect was arrested today, 22 March 2024 and charged for attempted murder and domestic violence and is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate Court soon.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded the team for ensuring access to justice for the victim of GBVF and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
