Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – A 40-year-old G4S security guard is due to appear before Port St Johns Magistrate’s court on 03 March 2025, facing allegations of carjacking and kidnapping. The suspect was arrested by a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Mthatha Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Tactical Response Team (TRT), Port St Johns Crime Prevention, and St Johns Crime Intelligence members on 01 March 2025. Two G4S security guards were allegedly driving a Toyota Etios near Ntlaza in Libode, servicing Automated Teller Machines (ATM). Further allegations divulged that their vehicle was bumped by a Volkswagen Polo forcing the guards to stop to check for damages. It is alluded that, a white Toyota Fortuner came from nowhere presumably stopped next to the Etios, armed suspects alighted and instructed the guards to lie down on the road and disarmed them of their firearms. The suspects reportedly sped off in a Fortuner with the security guards, covering their faces with balaclavas. The security guards were reportedly dropped off by the suspects near Ngqeleni in the forest. The police were activated to investigate the matter. The joint team discovered the G4S Etios in Pantu area near Port St. Johns, with two occupants inside however the suspects managed to flee from the police. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A chase ensued and one suspect was arrested, while his accomplice has managed to evade arrest. Firearms and ATM keys were robbed and later the ATM keys were recovered from the suspect. An intensive investigation established that the suspect is currently employed by G4S Cash Solutions based in Gauteng province. More suspects are at large and investigations continues. The suspect was arrested on the spot on 01 March 2025 and is expected to make his first court appearance before Port Johns Magistrate’s Court on 03 March 2025. Ends
