Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola and her management applauded the Galeshewe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for securing the life sentence handed down by the Galeshewe Regional Court to a 43-year-old man following the rape and attempted rape of his 17-year-old step daughter in Galeshewe between 2017 and 27 June 2020. The Court heard how the accused entered the room of 14-year-old victim in 2017, closed her mouth with a cloth and raped her. He threatened to kill her and her mother if she divulged the incident to her mother. The accused on Saturday, 27 June 2020 again attempted to rape the victim who was 17 years old then but his act was derailed by the victim’s mother who summoned the police to effect his arrest. The Court found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced him to life imprisonment for rape and 10 years for attempted rape and instructed that his name be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders and also declared him unfit to possess a firearm. Lieutenant General Otola, praised the investigating officer, Detective Constable Beverley Matlhale for the thorough investigative work, ensuring that justice is served for victims of GBVF. Ends
