Media Statement
Free State ProvJOINTS has noted with concern the circulation of voice-notes alleging that certain groups within the community are involved in poisoning water supplies from essential infrastructure. Such serious and unfounded allegations have the potential to create panic and incite unwarranted tension and violence, with individuals or groups being targeted without evidence. We urge community members to act responsibly and avoid spreading unverified claims. Distributing baseless accusations not only destabilizes communities but also diverts valuable resources needed to address genuine issues of public safety and security. As authorities, we emphasize that any information or suspicions about possible criminal activities, including water contamination, should be directly reported to law enforcement. This approach allows for a thorough and evidence-based investigation. Free State ProvJOINTS under the leadership of the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane is committed to safeguarding our communities and maintaining the integrity of essential services. “Resources have already been deployed to investigate these allegations, and should it be determined that they were made irresponsibly and without supporting facts, those responsible may face legal consequences”. Said the chairperson of the Free State Provjoints, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane.
Law enforcement authorities welcome and encourage anyone with credible information related to these allegations to step forward and work with the police to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities. One can share information through our Crime Stop Nr. 08600 1011 or anonymously so via MySAPS App.
