Media Statement BLOEMFONTEIN – Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Free State welcome the decision by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to rule in favour of Major General Tsotetsi the District Commissioner of Thabo Mofutsanyana, in the matter against Dihlabeng FM broadcasting from Bethlehem. ICASA’s ruling confirms that Dihlabeng FM failed to afford Major General Tsotetsi the opportunity to respond to malicious allegations made against him, a fundamental principle of fair journalism. This decision vindicates Major General Tsotetsi’s reputation and upholds the importance of responsible and ethical media practices. We commend ICASA for their thorough investigation and commitment to ensuring that media outlets adhere to the highest standards of journalism. We also want to commend Dihlabeng FM for doing the right thing by repeatedly and everyday broadcasting their apology to Maj General Tsotetsi and SAPS as his employer as directed by ICASA. Major General Tsotetsi’s dedication to serving the country and upholding the values of the South African Police Service remains unwavering. We don’t have any doubt that he is serving the people of Thabo Mofutsanyana with excellence. Lastly we need to remind those we are serving that a police official before he or she becomes a servant of the people, they are related to certain individuals who cares and love them. Before one makes any baseless allegations against an individual, be reminded that you are not only hurting such an individual, but the entire family as well. People are more than welcome to report any crime committed regardless of whether it’s by government official or ordinary citizen, but that must be done based on facts supporting their allegations.
