Four suspects in Zolani Tete murder to appear in court
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape confirms that four suspects are now in custody in connection with the murder of well-known boxer Zolani Tete, who was fatally shot at NU 17, Mdantsane, on 21 August 2026.
Court appearances are scheduled as follows:
The 22-year-old suspect arrested on Saturday, 22 August 2026, has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder. He is appearing before the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court today.
The two suspects arrested in Scenery Park on Sunday, are expected to appear before the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
All three suspects arrested on Sunday, 23 August 2026 (aged 27, 27, and 28) are expected to appear in the main case before the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on 25 August 2026.
The attempted murder charge relates to the 27-year-old female passenger who was wounded in the attack and remains hospitalised.
A 30-year-old male who was initially apprehended on 22 August 2026, has been released and remains a potential witness.
