Media Statement FREE STATE – Operation Vala Umgodi operators arrested a 29-year-old male for illegal mining in Cornelia area in Welkom. The police seized gold bearing material weighing 19.96 kilograms. A case of possession of suspected gold bearing material was opened at Welkom Police Station. Two other males were found busy processing gold bearing material at an address in Petrus Street in Naudeville. Gold bearing material weighing at 16.60 kilograms was seized and the suspects, aged 24 and 34, were immediately arrested. A case of possession of suspected gold bearing material with an additional charge of contravention of the Immigration Act was opened at Welkom Police Station. The fourth suspect was arrested near a Plant Hire in Long Street. Gold bearing material weighing at 46.36 kilograms was seized and the 39-year-old undocumented person was arrested by the police. A case of possession of suspected gold bearing material was opened at Welkom Police Station. Policing actions were also carried out in Kroonstad where a bus was stopped and searched at a filing station outside the town. Boxes containing 763 bundles of KHAT plant drug were found inside the Marcopolo bus luggage compartment. Two male drivers, aged 34 and 38, were arrested in terms of the Drug Trafficking Act.
