OR TAMBO – Mthatha based National Intervention Unit members were backing up OR Tambo Investigation Task Team to arrest a 48-year-old male suspect wanted for triple murders who was driving from Tsolo direction towards Mthatha on Monday, 14 April 2025 at about 09:20 and was believed to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Police spotted the suspect’s vehicle at Slovo Park – Mthatha, immobilized it and the suspect got out of his Mahindra bakkie and started shooting at the police who retaliated, fatally wounding the suspect. A 9mm pistol with an erased serial number with ammunition was found on the deceased suspect whilst in a separate incident in Ngqeleni, Tactical Response Team members were following up on information of three armed men in a Toyota Tazz vehicle at Nomadolo locality in Ngqeleni on Monday, 14 April 2025 at about 22H00. Police spotted the suspects’ vehicle and on stopping it, the suspects ran in different directions and started shooting at police who shot back, fatally wounding all three male suspects (unknown ages). Police recovered one Shotgun with six (06) Shells and a spent one, two pistols with erased serial numbers, a total of seven (07) live pistol cartridges, two revolver cartridges, one rifle cartridge, thirteen (13) Babybrown cartridges with the suspects’ vehicle was impounded for further investigation. The Acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntuli applauded police for their tactical awareness in all life-threatening situations they found themselves in and further cautioned suspects not to start shooting at police whenever approached by them for whatever reason/s.
