Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – On Saturday, at approximately 22:00, East London K9 received information about divers that were possibly poaching abalone at Gonubie Black Rock. K9 members operationalised and were on foot patrols while others were at the observation points monitoring the divers, which were seen diving with torches in the water. Further actions led to three males who were found coming out from the rocks, and when noticing the members, they attempted to run back into the sea but were apprehended before that could happen. Due to this, further information was followed up, which led to German Bay, where the other suspect was arrested while attempting to flee. A total of 6 bags with wet abalone, diving equipment, and cellphones were found. A total of 4 suspects were arrested with a total of 297 abalone units recovered and were handed over to DFFE members as well as diving equipment and cellphones. The suspects are between the ages of 25 and 30 and are due to appear at East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 February 2025 Ends
