Media Statement PARKTOWN – The multidisciplinary operations of Vala Umgodi continue relentlessly to deal with illegal mining activities and related crimes; this after the team recovered four firearms and ammunition on 17 February 2025. The disruptive operations which are intelligence led were conducted at Blyvooruitzicht in Carletonville area. Three abandoned houses were searched and three handguns and one shotgun were recovered with ammunition and magazines. The operation also resulted in the arrests of two illegal foreigners also suspected of illegal mining and confiscation of phendukas, oxygen cylinder and generators. The operations are continuous with the focus on West Rand, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng Districts which are areas affected by illegal mining. Ends
