Four accused, Bekuyise Cebekhulu 58 from KZN, Jimmy Sibeko 44 Gauteng, Busisiwe Skhosana 52 Gauteng and Bogadi Mahisa 49 Gauteng appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 03 June 2025 for incitement to commit public violence.
National Hawks Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said court appearance emanates from the July 2021 unrest where it was alleged that supporters of former president Jacob Zuma, participated in a WhatsApp chat group which was named ZUMA REAL ACTIVIST 100% and other chat groups on the platform where they’d post inciting messages which it is believed to have led to the public violence as well as the looting of retail stores in Gauteng and Kwa Zulu Natal at the time.
Thorough investigations were conducted by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime, Crimes Against the State (CATS) in Gauteng and upon completion of the investigations, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has taken a decision to prosecute those who posted messages which led to the unrest. his after warrants of their arrests where authorized and through their legal representatives then handed themselves over to authorities.
The four accused granted bail of R1500 each. They will appear again on the 02 July 2025. More arrests are imminent.
Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has welcomed the arrests and commended the investigating team. “DPCI shall continue to secure in court, the attendance of anyone against whom sufficient evidence of committing national priority offence is obtained, without fear, favour or prejudice”, Maj Gen Kadwa concluded.
