Media Statement NAMAHADI – Four children from Ha-Rankopane Village, Qwaqwa, were scathed by brazier fire while seated outside the house warming themselves in the presence of another minor girl. It is alleged that on 27 January 2025 the police received a complaint about four kids who were burnt by a fire from the brazier. The allegation was that a young girl aged 17 was cooking on the brazier, which was outside the house. By that time, Ha-Rankopane Village was without electricity. She was building the fire with wet wood. She removed a plastic container from the house that contained a clear liquid, which she believed to be paraffin, after realizing that she was having trouble with the fire. The container exploded as she threw it into the brazier. The four children from the neighbours were burned during the process as they were seated near the fireplace. It was later reported that the container had benzene, not paraffin. All four children were taken to the local hospital for further treatment. The minor girl wasn’t injured in the process. An inquiry docket is being investigated.
