Media Statement MPUMALANGA – Four suspects, Mr Tinda Mhlangu (29), Mr Dray Madziva (26), Mr Gondai Mlambo (35), all Mozambican citizens and Mr Barry Mosiana (34), a South African citizen, were remanded in custody by the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 December 2024, for possession of suspected stolen tower batteries. On Friday, 13 December 2024, information was received and operationalised by the team comprising of Secunda Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Secunda Crime Intelligence and Secunda K9 Unit pertaining to suspects involved in the theft of tower batteries. The team conducted an intelligence driven operation whereby four suspects were found in possession of tower batteries. They were arrested, charged and detained. The stolen batteries and motor vehicle used during the commission of crime were seized for further investigation. The suspects appeared before the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 December 2024. They were remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 19 December 2024 for Legal Aid services. The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Gerber applauded the collaboration of the team and the public for providing information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
