FREE STATE – Four accused, Nicolette Sybil Godeffroy (48); Semakaleng Maria Tsotetsi (72); Manini Semakale (62) and Alie Ndlovu (73) made a brief appearance before Hennenman Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 7 March 2025 accused of fraud and money laundering, following their arrest on the same day. It is alleged that during 2020, the two establishments based in Hennenman, Mohau Child Care Project and Mamello Day Care Centre represented by the four accused made an application for Covid-19 Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on behalf of its purported ninenteen employees who were never employed by the two establishments. Their fraudulent application were approved by the UIF and as a result the Department of Employment and Labour was prejudiced and suffered a loss of more than R615 000 to both entities. A court docket was registered then referred to the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for a further probe which resulted to the arrest of the four accused. The court released Godeffroy, Tsotetsi, Semakale and Ndlovu on warning and the matter was postponed to 31 March 2025 for legal representation. Ends
