Media Statement GAUTENG – The Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) asset forfeiture team has secured a significant forfeiture order targeting illegal gambling activities. Following meticulous investigations by their counterparts from the Commercial Crime Investigation team in collaboration with the Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB), a decisive court ruling was obtained on 17 March 2025. On 1 September 2022, a tip-off led investigators to an internet café suspected of hosting illegal gambling operations. An authorised operation under the Criminal Procedure Act, was conducted at the identified premises. It led to the arrest of a Zimbabwean national in connection with the unlawful enterprise. The perpetrator was charged with contravening the National Gambling Act of 2004. Preliminary comprehensive inspection of the premises revealed that the business, operating under the name “Gold Valley” at Burger Street, North Park Mall, lacked the required licensing to conduct gambling activities. Seized during the operation were electronic equipment and cash valued at R11 130.00, both of which have since been forfeited to the State as per the Pretoria High Court ruling. The success of this operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the PCSI team in safeguarding our communities against illegal gambling. Meanwhile, Krone Patience Mutomba appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 19 March 2025, on the criminal case. The case was postponed to 06 May 2025 pending further proceedings.
