Media Statement MPUMALANGA – The Mbombela division of the High Court granted forfeiture order to the Hawks`Priority Crime Specialised Investigation and Asset Forfeiture Unit in collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority, on Thursday, 21 November 2024. The accused Ms Nozipho Yolanda Precious Mabuza (36), the daughter of the late Petros Mshengu` Mabuza was apprehended on 4 April 2021 at Hazyview on charges of Contravention of Sec 133 of the National Credit Act, Act 34 of 2005 . The arrest occurred while she was at Mshengu Financial Loan offices in Hazyview area. Mshengu Financial Loan was operating as an illegal loan business. Upon borrowing money, people would have to leave their ID books as well as SASSA cards and pin codes. During the arrest an amount of R36 730 was seized and booked into the SAP 13. The money was then deposited into the suspense account. Investigation was finalised and the accused was sentenced on 28 April 2022, to R 5 000.00 or 12 months imprisonment, wholly suspended for 5 years on condition that accused not to be convicted or found guilty on charges of the Contravention of the National Credit Act . The matter was referred to Asset forfeiture Unit for further investigation. Investigation was finalised and forfeiture order was granted by the Mbombela High Court on Thursday, 21 November 2024 to amount of R36 730. On the same day, the Mbombela High Court granted the team another forfeiture order of cash amount of R15 820. During April 2020, the Police members received information and operationalised it regarding a suspect who was allegedly transporting dagga, driving a blue Toyota bakkie on the R40 road in the vicinity of Bushbuckridge. The police responded and manage to locate the said vehicle. The suspect was arrested. Another male person offered the police an amount of R15 820 for the suspect to be released with the dagga. He was also arrested and the money was seized and booked in the SAP 13 and further deposited in the suspense account. The criminal case was investigated by the station and it was withdrawn on 5 October 2021. The asset matter was referred to the Hawks ‘Priority Crime Specialised Investigation Unit and Asset Forfeiture Unit for further investigation. Investigation was finalised and forfeiture order of R15 830 was granted on Thursday, 21 November 2024 The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Gerber applauded the investigative team for executing their mandate to follow the money. He further warn the public that the assets used during the commission of crime will be seized and forfeited to the state. Ends
