Media Statement POLOKWANE – Members of the SAPS Tracking Team in Limpopo acted on a tip-off regarding an SUV en-route from Musina transporting illicit cigarettes. On Thursday, 10 October 2024, police intercepted the vehicle along the R81 towards Mooketsi in Modjadjiskloof policing area. The driver, a 31-year-old foreign male, attempted to flee but was apprehended near Ga-Sekgopo village. The vehicle was found to contain 27 master boxes of illicit cigarettes, with an estimated street value of R168 000-00. The suspect is set to appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 October 2024, facing charges of dealing in illicit cigarettes.
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the swift reactions by all involved in dismantling this smuggling operation.
