Foreign National Arrested at Durban Home Affairs After Overheard Plotting to Kill 'March & March' Leader

A foreign national was arrested at the Department of Home Affairs offices on Moore Road in Durban after he was overheard inciting his peers to assassinate Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, the high-profile founder of the anti-illegal immigration movement, March & March.

The suspect was standing in a queue alongside other asylum seekers waiting to process their documentation when the incident occurred.

Unbeknownst to him, Ngobese-Zuma’s husband, Xolani Zuma, alongside nearby police officers, overheard the man openly instructing his colleagues to kill the activist.

Law enforcement acted immediately on the threat, arresting the suspect on the spot.

The incident comes amid heavily intensified tensions outside refugee reception centres in KwaZulu-Natal.

Members of March and March have recently staged targeted demonstrations and “cleanup campaigns” outside the Moore Road and Che Guevara Road Home Affairs branches.

The friction follows a directive from the Department of Home Affairs instructing offices to accept asylum applications from individuals who entered South Africa illegally, acting on a recent Constitutional Court ruling.

Ngobese-Zuma and her movement have vehemently opposed this directive, claiming it creates loopholes in the country’s immigration systems.

The swift arrest has underscored the volatile atmosphere surrounding the ongoing immigration debates in Durban.

Police are expected to investigate the full extent of the threat as the suspect faces charges related to intimidation and incitement to violence.
