Ford halts U.S. vehicle shipments to China amid rising tariffs
Ford Motor Company has suspended shipments of several American-made vehicles to China, including the F-150 Raptor, Mustang, Bronco SUV, and Lincoln Navigator, in response to retaliatory tariffs that have pushed import duties up to 150%.
The move, reported on April 18, 2025, comes amid intensifying trade tensions following U.S. tariffs imposed under former President Donald Trump. Despite the halt, Ford continues to export U.S.-built engines and transmissions to China, while imports of the China-made Lincoln Nautilus to the U.S. remain unaffected.
Ford’s China operations, including its joint ventures, generated $900 million in operating profit in 2024. However, vehicle exports to China dropped to just 5,500 last year down from an average of over 20,000 annually over the past decade.
The automaker warned it may raise prices if the tariffs persist, as the industry faces a potential $108 billion increase in costs in 2025 due to ongoing trade policies.
