Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The persistence and vigilance of members attached to the Flying Squad, ensured the recovery of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and drugs as well as the arrest of those who were found in possession of it. In the early hours of this morning, Friday, 17 January 2025 members of Maitland Flying Squad deployed in Elsies River to quell the recent outbreak of gang violence which left an adult male killed and another seriously injured a day ago, followed up on information about firearms being stored at a premises situated in 22nd Avenue, Elsies River. On arrival at the address, members ensued with a search and discovered two 9mm pistols, a CZ 75 and a Glock with 52 9mm rounds of ammunition as well as 85 mandrax tablets hidden in a bin on the premises. Further investigation revealed that the one pistol was stolen in Camps Bay earlier this month while the second pistol was stolen in Tongaat during February 2024.
The members arrested two suspects, aged 32 and 48 who were found on the premises. They are scheduled to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ court on Monday, 20 January 2025, once they are charged for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as for the possession of drugs.
