Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The possession of abalone without a permit is high on the priority list for SAPS to detain suspects and bring them before a court of law. Maitland Flying Squad members were busy with patrols on Saturday 25 January 2025, when they were alerted about a vehicle transporting abalone in Brackenfell policing precinct. The members proceeded to the identified area, entered and searched the premises and in the process confiscated abalone with an estimated mass of 74 kilogram. They detained one male for the unlawful possession of abalone. Once charged the suspect is expected to make a court appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charge. Ends
