ROUXVILLE – Five suspects, aged between 19 and 40, will appear in the Rouxville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 30 September 2024, on a charge of armed robbery. A complainant, who is a Bangladeshi shopkeeper, alleges that on 25 September 2024 at about 20:30, he was outside his shop when he was accosted by three unknown men. They suddenly pulled out a firearm and held it against his head, threatening to kill him. They demanded money from him, searched him and took his cellphone before fleeing the scene on foot. Investigations into the matter started immediately, where Rouxville and Zastron SAPS members followed up on information, which led to Extension 10 in Zastron. On arrival, members have arrested five suspects who were linked to an armed robbery case that was registered earlier. In their possession, police found two black balaclavas, a bank card, a toy gun, a pistol, one round of ammunition and a cellphone believed to be that of the complainant. The confiscated firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish any linkages to other crimes committed in the country.
