POLOKWANE – The Police in Makhado, Vhembe District have arrested five suspects aged between 18 and 58 in connection with stock theft. The suspects are expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 April 2025. The arrests stem from an intelligence-driven operation conducted on Friday, 04 April 2025, after Makhado SAPS Detectives received information regarding suspected stolen cattle being transported along Vivo Road. At around 14:00, officers intercepted two vehicles on Rissik Street in Makhado, a white Isuzu bakkie with Limpopo registration plates and a trailer with no number plates and a silver-brown Toyota double cab also with Limpopo registration plates, suspected to be escorting the livestock. Upon inspection, the trailer was found to be loaded with three cattl, and the occupants of both vehicles were unable to provide valid documentation or credible explanations regarding the origin of the domestic animals. All five suspects were arrested on the scene and charged with possession of suspected stolen livestock. The vehicles and the cattle were seized as evidence and investigations are ongoing to determine the rightful owners and trace the origin of the livestock. “Stock theft continues to have a devastating impact on rural economies and livelihoods. We commend the swift and coordinated action of our members and urge the public to report any suspicious livestock movements to their nearest police station,” said Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
