On the evening of Sunday, 09 March 2025 an Ethiopian businessman was kidnapped at gunpoint in Norwood, Johannesburg by unknown men who were driving a Toyota Prado. On Monday, 10 March 2025 members from the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime (Crimes Against The State CATS), Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), Vision Tactical and Cap Specialised Services followed up on information of a victim who was being held captive in Kensington, Johannesburg. A search and seizure warrant was obtained and members proceeded to the identified premises to execute. Upon arrival, a shootout ensued between the suspects and which led to one suspect being fatally wounded and another arrested. Two firearms, an AK47 a shotgun as well as ammunition were recovered. While at the scene more information was received about (4) more suspects who were stopped and searched while driving a Toyota Auris in Sophiatown, Johannesburg. Upon searching the vehicle, jewellery belonging to the kidnapped victim was found and the (4) suspects were subsequently arrested. Ends
