Media Statement PARKTOWN – Five suspects were arrested and one fatally wounded during a business robbery that occurred in the early hours of 03 December 2024 at a filling station on the Old Johannesburg road in Wierdabrug area. It is reported that, the SAPS crime prevention members were on duty with CPF patrollers when they heard an explosion of which they quickly responded to. Upon reaching the area of explosion they were met with a group of men shooting at them. The members retaliated, shooting one of the suspects who was later declared dead at a local hospital. Five suspects were chased and arrested while an unknown number of other suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. The group reportedly robbed the convenience store first before bombing an ATM. A 9mm pistol with a filled off serial number, detonators and cigarettes were also recovered on the scene. The five suspects2, aged between 29 and 38, are expected to appear before court soon on charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm. Ends
