A tragic head-on collision on the R518 road in the Lephalale Municipality, Waterberg District, claimed the lives of five people on Friday and left six others injured.
According to officials, the crash occurred when a sedan attempted to overtake and collided head-on with another vehicle. Both drivers died at the scene, along with three female passengers. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities suspect reckless driving may have played a role but said formal investigations are still underway.
In response to the incident, Limpopo’s transport department reminded motorists to exercise caution, especially as road traffic increases during Heritage Month festivities. Traffic officers have stepped up patrols on major routes in an effort to curb accidents and protect travelers.
