ZWELITSHA – Two-day operation 28 August – 29 August 2024 by members from National Intervention Unit and Tactical Response Unit, Public Order Policing and Flying Squad resulted in positive results as firearms were confiscated and perpetrators are behind bars. Members partake in a crime intelligence driven operation in the policing precincts of Nelson Mandela Bay District and followed information shared to them. While they were at Wells Estate, they followed a suspicious truck with four occupants, and the truck driver noticed that they were being followed. Upon following, the truck stopped in front of a local tavern, and they threw a bag on the floor and fled in different directions. Upon investigating inside the bag, members recovered a 16-channel military signal jammer. The truck was fully stocked with liquor from one of the business places that did not want to open a case. The signal jammer believed to be used in hijacking vehicles was confiscated by police During the stop and search, a suspicious vehicle was spotted in Mavuso Rd, New Brighton. Police attempted to pull the vehicle, but the driver sped off and was involved in an accident. Upon searching him, they recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition. The other suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. Police proceeded to Motherwell, where they recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and three suspects were arrested. These suspects are due to appear at different Magistrate courts within Gqeberha Ends
