Da Cruz leaves the door cracked for a late signing at Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs look finished in the market. Fernando Da Cruz says they are not.
Amakhosi have already added Thabo Moloisane, Langelihle Phili, Renaldo Leaner and Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko. Faiz Abrahams arrived on loan from Stellenbosch. Khanyisa Mayo’s loan became a permanent deal.
That should be enough. The window slams shut on 22 September. The new season is already underway.
Da Cruz is happy with what he has. He is not hunting for numbers. But he will not ignore a genuine opportunity.
“No, I am happy about the squad. If there is one big opportunity, maybe we will take it, but I do not want to take a player just for taking a player,” he said.
“If it is to take someone, it is someone who will be useful to us. So, for the moment, I am happy about that.”
His message is clear, no panic buys, no extras for the sake of extras. Only a player who moves the needle.
Chiefs were disappointed after drawing with Polokwane City. Da Cruz still likes the direction. The players, he says, are adapting to his game model.
