A female body was discovered next to the railway line between Dube Railway Station and the curve leading to Khwezi Railway Station, on the Meadowlands zone 4 side in Soweto in Johannesburg on Monday.
According to information received, the body was found by railway security guards inside a drainage system in the area.
It is believed that the body may have been there for several days.
The circumstances surrounding how the body ended up at the scene remain unclear.
According to Jozi FM, railway security personnel alerted the authorities and relevant stakeholders, who responded to attend to the matter.
Police have opened an inquest docket and investigations are ongoing.
