Award-Winning Maskandi Artist Khuzani Mpungose Announces Final Event at Carnival City

Award-winning Maskandi artist Khuzani Mpungose has confirmed that his recent show at Carnival City in Johannesburg will be his last at the venue.

The “Ijele” hitmaker made the announcement during the Blue Nation Music Festival, which he hosted on Saturday. Popularly known as “Khuba,” Khuzani revealed that the next edition of the Blue Nation event will take place at the Durban International Convention Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.

While the festival drew strong support from fans, several high-profile artists failed to attend. Among those absent were Amafikizolo, Limit Nala, Menzi, and Quality Biyela.

Addressing the crowd, Khuzani expressed gratitude to his supporters:

“First of all, we would like to thank all of you in the Blue Nation for supporting your own. The love and dedication you showed during this event are amazing. You have made it clear that this is not just a momentary event but a long-standing one; we are a big family that grows day by day.”

He explained that the artists who could not attend had communicated their challenges, which included travel delays and last-minute flight cancellations. Some reportedly arrived at the venue as the event was ending, while others were still en route.

Khuzani also cited venue limitations as a key reason for the move away from Carnival City.

“We have seen that we need a major change. We wish to find a venue that will allow us to continue until dawn, as forcing people to leave at midnight does not align with our vision of providing full entertainment. We also ask that the venues we hire cooperate with us so we can grow the event properly,” he said.

He further noted that many fans remained outside the venue from the beginning until the end, hoping to gain entry.

Khuzani concluded by thanking everyone involved in making the event a success, including artists, instrumentalists, security teams, media, venue staff, the Nyathi Foundation, and supporters.

“This is just the beginning. The work continues, and the vision is much bigger than what we have already seen. No matter what, there is still a long way to go,” he said.

BRAVERY PRAISED AS SAPS MEMBER RETRIEVES CROCODILE FROM INFESTED RIVER

The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has commended Captain Johan “Pottie” Potgieter for his extraordinary bravery during a dangerous operation in the Komati River.

Captain Potgieter was hoisted from a SANParks helicopter into crocodile-infested waters, where he secured a euthanised crocodile with a rope under extremely hazardous conditions.

The crocodile was then safely lifted and moved, allowing police and other experts to recover body parts found inside its intestines. The remains have been taken for DNA analysis to confirm whether they belong to a missing person.

Dimpane praised Potgieter for risking his life in the line of duty.

“Captain Potgieter’s willingness to place his own life at risk, going far beyond the call of duty, reflects the unwavering commitment of SAPS members to serve and protect, even in the face of peril,” said Dimpane.

She added that SAPS salutes Potgieter for his professionalism and dedication, saying his actions are a reminder of the courage and sacrifice shown daily by police officers.

A 2 YEAR OLD SNABED AT HOME

Limpopo police are searching for a 2-year-old missing girl at Ga_ Mabuela village, under the Mokgalakwena municipality.

This comes after her 52-year-old grandmother discovered the missing child in the early hours on Saturday ( 02 May 2016)

According to the police statement presented by the grandmother.

It is alleged that the child was stolen through a bedroom window.

Police say the community and family members conducted a search that yielded no results.

At the time of her disappearance, Ompile Sethole was wearing a pink jersey and black tights.

Police appeal to the public for her safe return.

Police Raid Former Home of MP Fadiel Adams in Mitchells Plain

A group of armed police officers allegedly stormed a property in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, early on Saturday morning in search of National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and MP Fadiel Adams, his party has claimed.

According to a statement from the NCC, approximately 15 officers entered the home around 4 am. Adams, who is said to have moved out of the property two months ago, was not present. The current occupants, a woman and her small children, were reportedly harassed during the operation.

The party alleges that the officers, some wearing balaclavas, pointed firearms at the residents, forcibly photographed their ID documents, refused to identify themselves, and did not produce a search warrant or arrest warrant. A 12-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted, leaving family members traumatised.

Adams has described the incident as unlawful and is planning to open criminal charges, including intimidation, against the officers involved and a senior SAPS official. The NCC has called it an attempted kidnapping and part of an ongoing feud linked to Adams’ public allegations of corruption within police ranks. He is scheduled to hold a press conference on Sunday at Parliament.

MDN News reached out to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for comment, but no response has been received at the time of publication. The incident remains under development.

Adams, founder of the NCC and a member of Parliament’s Police Portfolio Committee, has been vocal in recent months about alleged misconduct in law enforcement and municipal matters in Cape Town.

SAPS Honours Fallen Detective Commander at Official Funeral in Libode

The official funeral of fallen SAPS detective commander Lieutenant Colonel Thamsanqa Livingstone Mzimvubu is currently taking place at the Moyeni Administrative Area in Libode, Eastern Cape, where he was born.

The funeral is being attended by Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata, senior police management, colleagues, family members, and members of the community.

Mzimvubu, 59, who served as the Detective Branch Commander at Madeira SAPS, was killed in the line of duty on 22 April 2026 in New Brighton, Ngangelizwe, Mthatha.

Four Killed in Shootout Between Community Patrollers and Suspects

Police in KwaZulu-Natal are investigating four counts of murder following a shooting incident in Bhambayi, Inanda, just before midnight on Friday.

According to reports, a group of community patrollers was on duty along Nohohwana Skeke Street when they encountered three men suspected of committing robberies in the area.

An altercation ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Two people, a community patroller and a suspect, died at the scene. Two additional patrollers later succumbed to their wounds in the hospital.

The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, reiterated that organised community crime-fighting groups must work with police and avoid confrontation with suspects.

“We encourage active community participation. However, structures like the Community Police Forum (CPF) must be the eyes and ears of the police and never take actions that may endanger their lives,” Mkhwanazi said.

A FEMALE POLICE OFFICER SNARED IN A SPIDER WEB

A 48-year-old police officer is to appear before the Gilead Periodical Court facing a corruption charge on Monday (04 May 2026)

The officer was arrested by the Limpopo Anti-Corruption Unit on Wednesday after receiving a complaint from a member of the Gilead Taxi Association in the Waterberg District.

According to the provincial police, the officer solicited R15000.00 in cash from all taxi operators in the area who are operating without proper documentation.

Police say the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit arranged physical transactions between the Taxi Association and the female officer on Thursday.

The officer was apprehended immediately after receiving the money.

Meanwhile, Provincial Police Commissioner Lt General Thembi Hadebe has expressed her strong displeasure at the member’s conduct.

Zambian Government and Lungu Family Sign Consent Order

Lusaka, 30 April 2026 — The Government of the Republic of Zambia and the family of the late Sixth President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, have signed a consent order that formally nullifies the ex parte order issued on 22 April 2026.

Ex Parte Order Set Aside

The earlier order had temporarily placed custody of the former President’s remains with his family while they were still held by the South African Police.

“The urgent ex parte Order granted on 22 April 2026 by Honourable Judge Francis-Subbiah has been reviewed and is hereby set aside,” reads part of the consent order.

Background to the Case

Following the lapse of the appeal before the Supreme Court of Appeal, the Government cited the judgment delivered on 8 August 2025 to take custody of the remains. However, the transfer to Zambia had not yet occurred, as the body remained under the care of the South African Police.

New Custody Arrangements

Through mutual agreement, the late President’s remains will now be placed in the custody of AVBOB (Pretoria East), with all related costs covered by the Government of Zambia. This arrangement will remain in place until the appeal before the Supreme Court of Appeal is concluded.

In line with the High Court Order of 25 June 2025, the family will retain access to the remains until the matter is fully resolved.

Government Welcomes Development

The Government has welcomed the agreement, stating that it has consistently maintained that the situation was never intended to become a dispute over custody of the remains.

Officials also reiterated their commitment to continued engagement with the former President’s family to reach a peaceful resolution and ensure he receives a dignified burial.

Agreement on Transfer Date

Meanwhile, the Government has agreed to the family’s request to move the body from B3 Undertakers to AVBOB on Monday, 4 May 2026, instead of immediately as initially directed.

Through their lawyers, Mashele and Company, the family requested that the transfer take place on Monday when they are able to be present. Under the consent order signed earlier, the body was to be moved immediately from B3 Undertakers to AVBOB.
