Manqoba Mngqithi has singled out Deon Hotto as the ultimate example of work ethic — challenging his own players to match the Orlando Pirates star’s intensity.

The experienced coach did not hold back in his praise, revealing that Hotto is often used as a benchmark during his team talks.

Speaking after his Golden Arrows were humbled by Pirates in a league game on Tuesday Mngqithi reflected on how the work ethic is important.

“I always make an example with Hotto when I talk to my players,” said Mngqithi.

“I think he’s a good football player, but his biggest strength is his intensity — the way he works and runs.”

Mngqithi stressed that the 35-year-old Hotto’s effort levels, especially at his age, should inspire younger players still trying to make their mark.

“When you look at his age and compare it to the intensity he plays with,” added Mngqithi. “It should be an example to younger players who still want to achieve things in football.”

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor also pointed out a growing culture within the Pirates squad — one built on relentless work rate.

“You can see it across the team — they run. There’s no laziness. That’s something my players can learn from.”

He even issued a blunt challenge to his own squad.

“If a team as big as Pirates can run like this, and we can’t match that, then it means we don’t have ambition.”

Mngqithi made it clear that while mistakes can happen, effort should never be questioned.

“My players must never be outrun by any team. That’s the standard.”

And in his final message, he underlined the lesson of the day: “The biggest takeaway is the work rate — and even the dribbles that Hotto produced. There’s a lot to learn from him.”

Mofokeng continues to shine, picks his favourite role at Pirates

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has made it clear — the number 10 role is where he feels most at home.

The 20-year-old playmaker was in sensational form, scoring twice as Pirates hammered Golden Arrows 5-0 to keep their title hopes alive.

Mofokeng’s performance saw him walk away with yet another Man of the Match award.

He took his tally to five goals in two games and boosting his season numbers to seven goals and five assists in 19 league appearances.

Despite also being effective out wide, the youngster says playing centrally suits his style far better.

“I think with the style we play here at Pirates, a number 10 role is more suitable for me..

“I’m not really someone who likes running. I prefer playing in the tight spaces.

“So, I think the number 10 position is fine for me,” he said speaking after the game at Orlando Amstel Arena.

His comments come as the debate over his best position continues, especially at national team level with Bafana Bafana.

For now, Mofokeng is letting his performances do the talking — and making a strong case for the playmaker role.

Ukhozi FM presenter Zimiphi “Zimdollar” Biyela has officially stepped down from hosting Maskandi events, citing health and physical strain after years in the industry.

The Durban-based SABC personality made the announcement in a heartfelt message to fans and event organisers, revealing that her body can no longer handle the demands of performing on stage.

“I greet you in the name of the Lord, Amen. I would like to inform event organisers and music lovers that Mamkhulu, Zimdollar, is now stepping down from hosting Maskandi events. My knees are no longer able to keep up with the dancing as the years have gone by,” she said.

She thanked supporters and organisers for years of collaboration, bringing an end to a long-standing presence in the Maskandi scene.

Zimdollar is known as a multi-talented media personality, with a career spanning radio, music, acting, motivational speaking and education.

Born in eNdabazensangu in the King Cetshwayo District, she has remained a proud representative of her rural roots and a respected voice in the industry.

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has reacted strongly to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent announcement in Ndwedwe regarding housing reparations for victims of apartheid.

While acknowledging that support for victims is long overdue, the party argues that the timing of the announcement raises concerns. According to the MK Party, the move appears closely tied to the upcoming 2026 local government elections, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal—a region where they believe the ruling African National Congress has struggled to meet expectations.

For decades, the MK Party says, many victims of apartheid-era injustices have waited for meaningful implementation of recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Some, they note, passed away without ever receiving assistance. Now, the party questions why significant action is only being taken in 2026.

The government’s allocation—reportedly R40 million for around 220 beneficiaries in one area—is described by the MK Party as insufficient when compared to the broader need. They argue that while some individuals may benefit, many families connected to past injustices continue to live without adequate housing, land, or basic dignity.

Ndwedwe itself carries a painful history, having been deeply affected by violence during apartheid and the political unrest of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The MK Party agrees that this suffering must be recognized, but insists that real justice requires more than symbolic gestures.

Instead, the party is calling for wider-reaching reforms. These include large-scale land redistribution, a more inclusive reparations programme that supports entire communities, and full implementation of outstanding TRC recommendations—including accountability for past human rights violations. They also stress the need to address corruption, which they believe has limited progress on restitution efforts.

The MK Party further criticizes the government’s broader record, pointing to ongoing challenges such as unemployment, poverty, and declining infrastructure. In their view, these issues continue to affect the same communities that bore the brunt of historical injustices.

Ultimately, the party maintains that South Africans deserve more than what they see as delayed and limited interventions. They say their focus remains on pursuing economic freedom, restoring land, and ensuring lasting justice for victims of both apartheid and unmet promises in the democratic era.

Television And Radio Personality Sizwe Dhlomo Warns Amapiano Star Kelvin Momo To Stop Missing Shows

South African media personality, radio and television presenter Sizwe Dhlomo has issued a strong warning to Amapiano producer and DJ Kelvin Momo over repeated missed performances.

Dhlomo, who rose to prominence after winning MTV Base VJ Search 2005, criticised the growing trend after Momo recently failed to appear at a scheduled performance at Marks Pub Shisanyama in Pretoria.

He stressed that promoters invest significant amounts of money into events, and when artists fail to honour bookings, it negatively impacts the entire value chain — from organisers to fans.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Dhlomo wrote:

“Someone should warn Kelvin Momo. Some promoters don’t play that. It’s a very dangerous game he’s playing. A missed gig is not just about the money you’re paid, people commit millions to their shows.”

Fans of Momo were left frustrated following the no-show, with sources indicating that this was not an isolated incident. The producer has allegedly missed several other bookings, including shows in Polokwane, Sun City, and the OR Tambo Homage Concert.

In a statement issued on 3 April 2026, Momo’s management apologised for his absence at the Pretoria event.

“Kelvin Momo would like to extend his sincere apologies to all stakeholders, partners, and fans regarding his absence from the scheduled performance at Marks Pub and Shisanyama on 2 April 2026.

“Due to ongoing band rehearsals in preparation for his upcoming Kelvin Momo Live Concert, his schedule was significantly constrained. Unfortunately, this resulted in him missing the last available flight from Durban, which prevented him from attending the gig as planned,” the statement read.

Management added that they understand the disappointment caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of fans and stakeholders. They also reaffirmed that Momo remains committed to his supporters and will make amends at future performances.

LIMPOPO PREMIER GIVES A CONTRACTOR EIGHT DAYS TO COMPLETE WORK

Limpopo Provincial Government could face a lawsuit worth R48.1 million if a Letaba hospital contractor doesn’t receive payment on 15 April 2026.

The contractor, who is known by the provincial government, was awarded a tender 3 years ago to revamp Tshilidzini and Letaba as regional hospitals for the Department of Health, decentralising Renal dialysis services.

Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, accompanied by the MEC Dieketseng Mashego, conducted a review progress at the hospital to ensure urgent transparent improvements.

The so-called ” anonymous contractor” was awarded a tender for both hospitals by the premier during her reign as an MEC for health.

The prolonged projects have been prompted by social media complaints.

On 02 April 2026, Innocencia Mukobe, who is undergoing a weekly kidney failure dialysis at a private hospital in Polokwane.

She wrote a letter addressed to the MEC of health asking why Mankweng Hospital is still the only one offering dilaysis services in the entire province?

It is alleged that Mukode pays R15000.00 per month at a private hospital and R100 000.00 per year for her weekly kidney dialysis.

Premier Ramathuba sympathized with her and lashed out at the contractor by calling him a murderer. Indicating that, he doesn’t care about the health of 145 patients who are currently deceiving hemodialysis at the provincial hospital.

“We want the wards to be complete in order to attend 145 patients currently on the hemodialysis programme. The regional hospitals will reduce long-distance travel and increase capacity, ” said Provincial Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba

Ramathuba urged the MEC and HOD of the department to terminate the contract of the contractor if the Letaba hospital is not complete by 15 April 2026.

Premier acknowledged that the revamp at Tshilidzini hospital is complete.

As matter stands, Netrologists have been transferred from Polokwane to Letaba Hospital, but wards are not yet completed.

The department will continue to transport patients to the Provincial Healthcare facility until the issue is resolved.

SIU WINS ORDER SETTING ASIDE FRAUDULENT R14 MILLION NLC GRANT

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has secured a major legal victory after the Special Tribunal declared a R14 million grant issued by the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) unlawful, invalid, and set it aside.

The ruling orders all beneficiaries involved to repay the full amount.

The funding, which was meant for the development of a cultural village in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, was found to have been fraudulently obtained.

Investigations revealed that the project already existed, having been established in 2015 by the Maubane Cultural Village and Community Arts Centre using a prior NLC grant.

In a strongly worded judgment, Special Tribunal President Margaret Victor described the scheme orchestrated by Tshimangadzo and Ndoweni Mukutu as “clearly fraudulent.”

She ruled that the individuals and their associated entities acted together to defraud the NLC and are jointly liable to repay the full amount, including legal costs.

Judge Victor also issued a stark warning about the state of corruption in the country, saying it has reached “catastrophic” levels. She emphasised that funds intended to uplift communities were instead diverted through a deliberate and dishonest scheme.

The SIU investigation uncovered extensive manipulation, including the unauthorised use of a legitimate non-profit organisation’s constitution, forged signatures, fictitious leadership structures, and the creation of a bank account used to channel millions of rand.

Original members of the Madumelani Community Project confirmed they neither applied for nor had any knowledge of the grant.

Further findings revealed that millions were rapidly distributed to companies and individuals linked to the Mukutu brothers shortly after the funds were disbursed in 2018.

The probe also connected the case to broader corruption within the NLC, including payments to entities associated with former board member William Huma, who has previously been ordered to repay misused funds.

The investigation forms part of a wider probe authorised by Cyril Ramaphosa under Proclamation 32 of 2020, targeting maladministration and corruption within the NLC.

The SIU says the ruling marks a critical step toward recovering public funds and holding those responsible accountable. Criminal aspects of the case have now been referred to the National Prosecuting Authority for further action.
