The family of 27-year-old Mthokozisi Mvelase, an e-hailing driver shot dead in Soweto this week, says his killing could have been prevented if warnings about growing tensions in the area had been taken seriously.
Mvelase was gunned down outside Maponya Mall, and his vehicle was set alight in what is believed to be linked to the ongoing conflict between taxi operators and e-hailing drivers.
His death has sparked outrage in the community, with residents taking to the streets demanding justice. Authorities have appealed for calm while investigations continue.
