BOGUS HEALTH INSPECTOR ARRESTED IN POSSESSION OF UNLICENSED FIREARMS IN BOTSHABELO
During Sunday 11 May 2025, organized foreign nationals business community alerted the police about a male person impersonating a health inspector in L-Section.
According to the Free State Lt Col Thabo Covane the suspect, who was reported to be carrying a sidearm, went from store-to-store pretending to inspect expired foodstuffs.
Later during the day, at about 15:30, the police were called to a store in M-Section where the community had cornered the suspect. Mangaung Metro Crime Combating Task Team swiftly responded to the complaint; the 34 year old male was searched, and a Taurus 9mm pistol was found on him. The search was extended to the White Chevrolet Utility bakkie where DM-4 Rifles with two (2) sharp 5.56mm ammunition; a Shotgun with six (6) 12 gauge bullets, and 235 live 9mm rounds were found. The suspect had no permit to possess the arms and ammunition gound in his possession by the police.
A case docket of Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition was opened at Botshabelo Police Station. The suspect will appear in Botshabelo Magistrate Court on Tuesday 13 May 2025.
