NORTHERN CAPE – The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola is elated and welcomes the life sentence that was handed down to a 32-year-old Victoria West man for raping his 30-year-old ex-girlfriend. On 06 February 2023 at 05:00, the accused kicked open the door of the victim’s house and threatened her with a knife and forcefully took her to the golf club where he raped her. The accused tried fleeing, but was arrested on 14 April 2023 and bail was successfully opposed. He remained in custody until he was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape on 30 July 2024 in the Colesberg Regional Court. He was declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name is to be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended Detective Sgt Ilze Fan of the De Aar Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for her sterling investigation that led to the outstanding GBVF sentence. “GBVF remains a priority for the SAPS and members will continue to sharpen their responses to crimes committed against the most vulnerable in society, said General Otola”. #EndGBVF If you see something, say something!
