A 40-year-old security supervisor from Eskom Tutuka Power Station was arrested on March 5, 2025, for his alleged involvement in the theft of copper cables.
His arrest brings the total number of accused to eight.
Seven others, including Eskom’s principal inspector Refilwe Motloung and her family members, were arrested in October 2024.
The investigation began when a traffic officer stopped a Toyota Hilux carrying copper cables in September 2024, leading to a chase and crash.
The suspects were arrested, and further investigations revealed a large-scale cable theft operation linked to Eskom.
The supervisor’s arrest follows the discovery of stolen cables at Eskom’s Tutuka station, with the eighth suspect set to appear in court today, March 6, 2025.
