Tinkler leaves Kotoko — Durban City rumours grow
Eric Tinkler has left Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko with immediate effect, with the club confirming that the South African coach requested to be released from his contract for personal reasons.
In a statement, Kotoko said its board had “agreed to the request of its Head Coach, Mr. Eric Tinkler, to be released from his contract with the Club effective immediately for personal reasons.”
The club revealed that it had attempted to prevent the departure.
“Both parties engaged in meaningful negotiations to avert the decision,” Kotoko said, before confirming that it ultimately had to respect Tinkler’s decision.
Kotoko also praised the coach for his short spell at the club, thanking him for his “professionalism and commitment to the success of the club.”
Tinkler leaves after four Ghana Premier League matches, recording one win, two draws and one defeat.
However, his sudden departure has immediately sparked speculation about his next move.
Rumours suggest Tinkler could be heading back to South Africa to take over at Durban City, who are searching for a new coach following the sacking of Khalil Ben Youssef.
Tinkler’s name had previously been linked with the Durban City job before Ben Youssef was appointed.
For now, the club has not officially confirmed Tinkler as its next coach.
