Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Police members in the Western Cape arrested eleven suspects when they were found in possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition in Fisantekraal and Manenberg respectively. Durbanville police conducted an integrated disruptive operation in Fisantekraal on Sunday 11 August 2024 to address the ongoing violence in the area. The members approached a house in Station Road at around 20:20, searched the occupants and the entire premises during which they discovered and confiscated a .38 special revolver and a zip gun with ammunition. They subsequently arrested ten males for the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention Manenberg police responded to a shooting incident on Monday 12 August 2024. Upon entering Manenberg Avenue at around 20:30, they saw people fleeing in different directions. The police members followed on foot and entered a dwelling where a person of interest indicated the firearm which was allegedly used in the shooting incident, hidden behind a Television mounted on the wall. They arrested the 37-year-old man for the illegal possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
