EFF MP Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Police Officer at Pretoria Police Station

A 33-year-old woman identified as an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly assaulting a police officer at Brooklyn police station in Pretoria.

According to SAPS, the incident began when she asked officers to commission an affidavit that had already been signed. After being told it had to be signed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths, a dispute allegedly broke out, during which she assaulted an officer.

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that the woman was released on warning the same night.

She is expected to appear before the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 October 2026, on charges of assault and interfering with police work.

Police have not officially named the suspect, and the EFF had not commented by Friday morning.
