The legal representatives of EFF President and Commander-in-Chief Julius Sello Malema have issued a formal legal demand against Ngizwe Mchunu.
This follows statements made during an interview on 28 April 2026, which were subsequently circulated on social media platforms. Ngizwe Mchunu falsely suggested that Mr Malema received R60 million from Nigerian drug dealer and is involved in protecting illegal immigrants for political benefit, and is also engaged in corrupt and criminal conduct.
“These remarks are untrue, malicious, and damaging to his reputation as a Member of Parliament and political leader. We demand a retraction, public apology, press statement, and R1,000,000 in damages within 24 hours, failing which legal action may be instituted,” the statement read.
The controversial activist and former Ukhozi FM presenter accused Malema of receiving the R60 million payment in exchange for providing political protection to illegal foreigners. Mchunu made these allegations during a march near the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Tuesday.
He claimed Malema’s vocal defence of African immigrants, particularly Nigerians, stems from this alleged payment and explains why the EFF leader is willing to risk his political career to shield illegal immigrants.
The claims, captured in a video that spread rapidly on X (formerly Twitter), prompted an immediate response from Malema, who posted: “Ndaa, when and where did he say that?” Malema’s challenge has been interpreted as a demand for evidence, with many EFF supporters urging him to pursue defamation charges against Mchunu.
