Media Statement MTHATHA – The South African Police Service in the Eastern Cape bids farewell to the outgoing OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Phumzile Cetyana, who has been transferred to the Western Cape Province. As of 01 November 2024, Major General Cetyana, commenced his duties as the Garden Route District Commissioner in Western Cape. After his appointment as the OR Tambo District Commissioner on 01 July 2022, he led 18 police stations and 16 units. Major General Cetyana made major and positive contributions in the fight against crime in the OR Tambo District, as well as Eastern Cape Province. He had noticeable efforts towards fulfilment of the Province’s five year vision, Operation Sikhona. Major General Cetyana is known as a foot soldier who has always been visible in various rural areas of OR Tambo District. He was seen engaging with communities of, to mention few, Majola (in Port St Johns), Qumbu, Sulenkama, Bityi, Lusikisiki, and many more areas, in an effort to curb crime in every corner of the district. The SAPS Family in the Eastern Cape wishes him well on his new journey as the Garden Route District Commissioner. Equally, the Province of the Legends welcomes the incoming OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Katishi Norman Modishana, who is coming from Western Cape Province, and previously served as the Garden Route District Commissioner. Major General Modishana joined the police in 1987 and worked diligently in a number of fields across the country, inclusive of Human Resource Development, National Intervention Unit, and Operational Response Services. The Eastern Cape SAPS family welcomes Major General Modishana as the new OR Tambo District Commissioner. The Province is looking forward to benefiting from his extensive experience and expertise.
