Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – The Graaff Reinet SAPS Academy had the honour to be the only police academy in the Eastern Cape Province to hold the last passing-out parade for 2024, after a total of 112 newly trained Constables successfully completed the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP). There were three other police academies in other provinces that held similar passing-out parades simultaneously. Nationally, more than 2700 newly trained Constables completed their training programmes, and were trained in various police academies namely, Graaff Reinet (EC), Bishop Lavis (WC), Ulundi (KZN) and Tshwane (Gauteng). Out of that number, 245 will be deployed in the Eastern Cape Province to bolster the Safer Festive Season Operations.
Lieutenant General Sello Kwena during his keynote address at the academy in Graaff Reinet said, “You have undergone the appropriate training and more so, the module for street survival, use of firearm and tactical policing. Over and above, all the other learning areas, this street survival knowledge and skills, is what you will need at your fingertips in the execution of your duties. Your safety and security is of equal importance as that of the communities we serve. Congratulations on choosing a career that places devotion to serving and protecting the inhabitants of the Republic of South Africa. After the rigorous training, hard work, and determination that each one of you put in, you deserve to be in the SAPS. Congratulations Constables,” concluded Lt Gen Kwena
