A fire broke out at an oil depot near the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, reportedly caused by debris from a drone. Emergency responders were deployed to contain the blaze, with over a hundred firefighters involved. As a precaution, flights at the nearby airport were temporarily suspended.
The incident is part of a broader wave of attacks. Several southern cities in Russia, including Ryazan, Penza, and Voronezh, experienced drone strikes over the weekend. In one case, multiple people were reported injured.
At the same time, a missile strike in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv damaged homes and civilian infrastructure, leaving at least seven people wounded, some of whom required hospital treatment.
These incidents are the latest in a pattern of retaliatory strikes between the two countries, with Ukraine focusing on energy-related targets in Russia. Russia, in turn, continues to strike Ukrainian territory, including critical energy and civilian infrastructure.
Both sides reported extensive aerial activity overnight. Russia claimed to have intercepted dozens of drones, while Ukraine stated that several drones and missiles had successfully struck targets in multiple locations.
The past week has been especially deadly in Ukraine. An earlier attack on the capital resulted in numerous civilian deaths, described as one of the most severe since the conflict began in early 2022.
In response to recent escalations, Ukraine’s leadership has called for increased international pressure on Russia. Meanwhile, global leaders have voiced concerns and discussed potential additional sanctions.
As tensions remain high, developments continue to unfold on both military and diplomatic fronts.
