Political Analyst Sanusha Naidu says the resignation of EFF’s Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi from Parliament doesn’t come as a shock.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has confirmed his resignation from Parliament. However, he remains a party member.
Ndlozi skipped the party’s third elective congress held in December last year.
Naidu says Ndlozi’s influence in politics still remains.
“If you follow what happened last year after the elections where you kind of got the sense that everything wasn’t right in the EFF camp, there were questions around the relationship between the top executives. Dr Ndlozi is a very intelligent man, he’s got a very good handle of how Parliament and parliamentary affairs are applied. Even if he does become that person that remains an ordinary member, the question would be how would that structure itself,” says Naidu.
‘Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi’s resignation as EFF MP doesn’t come as much of a surprise’: Sanusha Naidu
The now resigned EFF MP, Doctor Mbuyiseni Ndlozi – soft on the eye and known for a soulful singing voice, is affectionately called the People’s Bae meaning the love interest of the nation – has been in Parliament for just short of a decade. And in that time, he did not shy away from robust debate, or a witty joke during debates in the House.
Besides his good looks, he is also known for being very witty and being quick on his feet to make a joke in the House. The late minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu, once brought his adult daughter to the sitting, and while he warned her against the red berets, Ndlozi nevertheless took up the challenge.
“I have my daughter and her friends in the gallery. And I want to say to her, ‘Thuli my girl, if you see anyone with a red overall and boots approaching you, run my girl, run!’ … and dont look back!”
Ndlozi: Thuli? Thuli, Thuli!
Speaker Modise: Order honorable Ndlozi that is completely out of order.
Staying with matters of the heart, Ndlozi once got a round of applause out of the whole house for former Speaker, Baleka Mbete, after she had tied the knot.
“I want to sincerely speaker, on behalf of the EFF at least, congratulate you on your marriage. We believe in love … and we believe we must celebrate people who find love. We wish you success and happiness … sincerely and genuinely Speaker. We can perhaps all join and associate ourselves with the motion, it’s an urgent motion for love, thank you.”
Ndlozi also introduced new words in parliament.
“Honorable Deputy Speaker, I am worried that this minister we pay so much, she is sleeping. Minister Maite, and she is still sleeping! We pay you not to sleep. He banna! We are busy debating, you are sleeping, you are a sleepist!”
The current Speaker, then House Chair, Thoko Didiza congratulated a beaming Ndlozi when he was confered his doctorate.
“In my capacity as a chairperson responsible for internal arrangements and learning and development, would like to congratulate Doctor Ndlozi for the attainment of your doctorate.
Ndlozi: Thank you, honorable chairperson!
