DPCI ( HAWKS) Police officer to appear before the Nkowa Nkowa magistrate court for pointing a gun at his younger brother over their late parents property
A 53-year-old police officer attached to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) National Head Office is expected to appear before the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, on a charge of pointing of a firearm.
The court appearance follows his arrest after an incident that allegedly occurred at Mafarana Village in the Letsitele policing area, Mopani District, on 19 July 2026. It is alleged that the suspect pointed his service firearm at his 48-year-old brother during a dispute relating to their late parents’ property.A case of pointing of firearm was opened and police launched investigation.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, 26 July 2026 after he returned home and his service firearm, together with rounds of ammunition, was confiscated. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
The matter was reported to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further handling.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, reiterated that SAPS members are expected to uphold the law at all times.
“The South African Police Service will not tolerate any form of corruption especially within the ranks of law enforcement. The members who abuse their authority, thus betraying the trust placed on them by communities and the Service will be subjected to the Criminal Justice System.
We have adopted a zero tolerance approach against corruption. Lastly, we encourage the members of the public not to offer bribes and to report any allegations of corruption involving SAPS members to the SAPS Anti-Corruption Hotline: 0800 701 701,” said Major General Scheepers.
