According to the Fezile Dabi Policespokesperson Sergent Fikizwa Matoti this was prompted by allegations of fraud and corruption that occurred during the bidding and appointment of a sub-contractor appointed by Raubex Construction.
The Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport advertised a tender for the upgrading of the road between Heilbron and Sasolburg, which was eventually awarded to Raubex Construction on condition that they appoint local sub-contractors with a 30% stake in the project.
It is alleged that the company that was awarded the tender to render security services by Raubex Construction was not from Heilbron or Sasolburg. One of the directors of the involved sub-contractor allegedly became a director after the company was already appointed and the sub-contractor’s address suddenly changed to the newly appointed director’s address. It is also alleged that the company is not PSIRA compliant.
The matter was reported to the Hawks for investigation, culminating in a search warrant being authorised. Several documents were seized for further investigation.
