What was supposed to be another working day for DJ and radio personality Lamiez Holworthy turned into a fight for her life after an ovarian cyst ruptured just minutes before she was due to perform in Brits on National Women’s Day.

Holworthy has revealed that she was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery on 9 August after a massive cyst, which she said had grown larger than her uterus, ruptured while she was on her way to the gig.

What followed was even more frightening.

Doctors discovered multiple cysts during the emergency procedure and later diagnosed her with endometriosis. Hours after the first operation, Holworthy was rushed back into theatre after doctors discovered severe internal bleeding.

She required another emergency procedure and a blood transfusion.

The DJ has now opened up about the ordeal, describing it as a near death experience and using what happened to warn other women against ignoring persistent or unusual pain.

Holworthy Had Been Ignoring Severe Pain

According to Holworthy, the health crisis did not come without warning.

She had been experiencing recurring ovarian cysts and excruciating pain for some time. Her doctor had advised her to undergo urgent surgery days before the National Women’s Day performance.

But Holworthy asked to postpone the operation so she could honour her existing work commitments.

That decision would have devastating consequences.

On 9 August, the cyst ruptured as she travelled to her scheduled performance in Brits.

The situation quickly became an emergency, and she was taken to hospital for surgery.

During the operation, doctors found multiple cysts and diagnosed her with endometriosis.

The situation became critical again only hours later when she was taken back to theatre because of internal bleeding.

Holworthy ultimately needed a blood transfusion as doctors worked to stabilise her.

“I was shocked and deeply upset with my body for letting this happen,” she said.

‘I Almost Lost My Life’

The experience has forced Holworthy to reconsider the price of putting work ahead of her health.

Sharing details of her ordeal on social media, she urged women experiencing unusual abdominal or back pain to seek medical attention rather than attempting to push through it.

“If you experience unusual back pain or abdominal pain, please visit the nearest doctor. I almost lost my life because I ignored mine and chose to put work first,” she warned.

Holworthy also highlighted the prevalence of ovarian cysts and endometriosis, saying one in 10 women live with these conditions.

Her message was particularly pointed for women who have become accustomed to living with chronic pain.

“Living with chronic pain is not normal, and there is no prize for working yourself to death. I learned that the hard way.”

Her warning comes from a deeply personal experience in which a condition she had been managing suddenly became life threatening.

Holworthy Hits Back at Online Rumours

While recovering, Holworthy also found herself dealing with another problem: speculation about the reason for her hospitalisation.

Rumours circulated online suggesting that her hospital stay was linked to a cosmetic procedure.

Holworthy rejected the claims.

“There is no BBL,” she clarified.

She explained that she underwent liposuction once in 2021 but said she had experienced no further complications from the procedure.

The media personality also criticised the culture of cyberbullying and the tendency to turn someone’s medical crisis into an opportunity for online speculation.

She encouraged people dealing with personal frustrations or problems to seek constructive ways to address them rather than directing anger towards others.

Lamiez Holworthy Recovering at Home

After the frightening ordeal, Holworthy has now been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

She is being supported by her husband, rapper Khuli Chana, and her family as she continues her recovery.

For Holworthy, the experience has transformed a painful medical emergency into a warning she hopes other women will take seriously.

Her message is ultimately about listening to the body before a warning sign becomes a crisis.

The DJ had a job to get to that day. Instead, she ended up fighting for her life.

Now, she is urging other women not to make the same choice she believes nearly cost her everything.
