WESTERN CAPE – Two, former Police officials, Jonathan Plaatjies (54) and Morne Fasser (41) who sold a police docket and were found in possession of entrapment money, have been sent to jail. They were dismissed from the SAPS and were sentenced to nine (9) years direct imprisonment each. This comes after their arrest on August 2014 by the Hawks’ Bellville Serious Corruption Investigation team after reacting on information received that the two members sold a case docket to an accused for R40 000.00 The two accused were arrested on the following charges: Corruption, Extortion and Defeating the Administration of Justice They were dismissed from the SAPS through expeditious process. The duo were found guilty as charged by the Bellville Serious Commercial Crimes Court. The case was finalised yesterday, 03 April 2024 after they were convicted on 26 October 2023, they were sentenced as follows:
Count one: Corruption – 9 years Effectively, both accused will serve a period of nine (9) years direct imprisonment each. The court ordered that all sentences be served concurrently. Additionally, both accused were declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“The sentence is a clear cut message that corruption does not pay and that as police management will never tolerate any act of corruption within our ranks” said the Provincial Head of the Hawks’ Western Cape Major General Mathipa Makgato. “We commend the judiciary and thorough investigation conducted by dedicated team to remove those who are criminals hiding behind our dignified badge” concluded the Provincial Head.
